This portrait of Sarah (Mangold) Blackstone Chester, Susan Mangold's older sister was taken on the trip to DuQuoin. Susan was the baby of the family and aunt Sarah chaperoned their outing to uncle J. G. Mangold's studio to have portraits made of little Kitty (namesake of her grandmother Kitty Gunnell) and Harry Fuller. Little is known of Sarah's first husband Blackstone.
Sarah presents a very intriguing picture. The large oval belt buckle and especially
the very narrow collar suggest a date in the mid-1860s or at the very
least a much younger "trendier" woman. She doesn't appear to
be wearing a corset, but her dress is so ill-fitting it is hard to tell.
